Adult female and juveniles are brown-streaked overall; lack distinct ear patch and eyebrow of Purple and Cassin's Finches. Young makes acquire adult coloring by first fall. Food is 86% weed seeds, especially of thistle, dandelion, noxious weeds, from old fields, vacant lots; also fruits of cactus, blossoms and buds of wild and cultivated plants.
