CHECKING VANDALISM. Managing National Wildlife Refuges to protect and conserve migratory and native species of birds, mammals, fish, endangered species, and other wildlife is the primary responsibility of the Service's refuge managers. Many refuges also offer outdoor recreational opportunities and programs to educate the public about the refuge's wildlife and their habitats. Refuge management also entails maintaining habitat and visitor's facilities.
